Europe 2002 Draft Itinerary

Ok, here is the plan. Of course, we don't promise to stick to any of this.
Friday
Sept 13
Fly British Airways (depart 18:40 EST) from Toronto Pearson to Rome with a stopover in London
This is pretty firm :-)
Saturday
Sept 14
Arrive in Rome just after noon. Yup, long flight :-) (ok, so there was a time zone change)
I'd suspect that we'll walk around Rome, find the hostel, (reminder, book that Brian) have an authentic Italian dinner. Hopefully we'll have gotten enough sleep on the plane to enjoy this evening.
Sunday
Sept 15
It's Sunday. We'll be in Rome, let's do what the Romans do. :-) Might as well go to church.
Actually, I think we'll leave Rome and go to a church in the Vatican. cool.
As for the rest of the day... well, who knows. We'll see how much time we spend at the Holy See. We might end up visiting the Colosseum this night. maybe not.
Monday
Sept 16
Monday, and we won't be at work. Now the vacation begins.
For today, ancient Rome. The Forum, Pantheon, maybe an aquaduct, and the Colosseum if we didn't see it Sunday night. How? We have no idea. Walk, bus, taxi, Roman Chariot. Whatever.
Tuesday
Sept 17
Open Free Day
So, if the Roman Chariot was too slow, more Rome. If not, then we might do day trip down to Pompei. We hope to see the Mediterranean Sea this day as well.
Wednesday
Sept 18
At 08:00 AM we'll take the "Busabout" Bus to Sienna through Perugia. Then on to Florence via San Gimignano. Brian is looking forward to San Gimignano which is a medieval city. The bus should take us through some nice sections of the Tuscany countryside.
If Rome really sucks, we'll do this on Monday instead.
Thrusday
Sept 19
Day trip to Pisa and back we suspect. Not booked yet either.
"hey, is that tower on a lean?"
Somehow at the end of this day we need to be in Venice. Night train maybe? Needless to say, very little sleep.
Friday
Sept 20
And the reason we needed to be in Venice is because we leave Venice at 08:00 AM Friday moring on another Busabout to Munich! (via St Johann Austria). 12.5 hour bus ride. Oh well. Through the Italian/Austrian/German Alps. Sleep on a park bench.
Saturday
Sept 21
See, today is the opening day for Oktoberfest! "O'zapft is!" There will be a few extra million people here and all the accomodations have been sold out for 10 months already. oh well. mmmm, beer. Oktoberfest opening ceremonies by day, beer tent by night.
The trip is half over :-(
back to the park bench
Sunday
Sept 22
The Oktoberfest Parade. The city of Munich. The beer tents. The park bench.
Monday
Sept 23
Here's where the trip all gets ... fuzzy. See, the 29th, our plane flys out of Paris. All the rest doesn't matter, but here's the fuzzy plan
Train back to Venice. The bus took 12 hours the first time, and well, it only goes one way. We didn't really have enough time in Venice, so why not go back for more. Game time decision though. We may have been able to see all of Venice in an hour. Who knows.
Assuming we go to Venice we'll do a canal boat ride.
Tuesday
Sept 24
More Venice ?
Wednesday
Sept 25
Beats me. There is a Busabout heading to Paris from here. 2 days drive. Leaves at 08:00 AM. (of course).
If not, we might rent a car. Hike in the alps? Switzerland? Both? Marble mine? Brian can't find any tours. We'll sleep amoungst the Swiss either way.
Thursday
Sept 26
Lyons? It's kinda on the way. French Countryside? Wineries? Castles? The Swiss 2002 expo? or the bussabout to Paris It'd be nice to be close to Paris this night.
Friday
Sept 27
Paris we expect. You know, the Louvre.
Saturday
Sept 28
More Paris Like the Eiffel Tower
Sunday
Sept 29
Fly home British Airways via London. :-(
